WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- One
Buster’s Drunk Chicken Roost™
- Your
favorite spices or spice rub
- One
four pound chicken. Up to four chickens may be cooked together, but
be sure they all weigh exactly the same so they will cook in the same
amount of time. If cooking three or four, use 3 1/2 pound or smaller
chickens so they don't touch each other.
- One
can of your favorite beverage...half full. We prefer beer, but you
may use water, wine, orange juice, root beer, or any other beverage.
- Olive
oil and chopped/minced garlic.
- Your
home oven, grill or smoker.
- Non-stick
cooking spray such as PAM Cooking Spray
- Drip
pan and/or aluminum foil (optional).
PUTTING
IT ALL TOGETHER
- Wash
chicken(s) thoroughly, inside and out. Discard any parts usually packed
within cavity. Lightly apply olive oil to outside of chicken, and
generously coat with spice rub. WASH OUTSIDE OF CAN before opening.
You may wrap can in aluminum foil if desired. Empty (or drink) half
of beverage can’s contents and insert chopped/minced garlic into can.
- Assemble
and use the Roost as shown in Step 1. To make cleaning easier, you
may wish to spray the Roost with a non-stick cooking spray. Insert
the prepared beverage cans into the Roost as per the diagram on the
right. Can should be a snug fit. Notice that during insertion or removal
of the can, it will only turn left.
- Slide
upright chicken over can as shown at right. Make sure the can is inserted
securely up into the chicken's cavity. Cross chicken’s legs over Roost
rail.
IMPORTANT
and THINGS TO REMEMBER
- Use
the Roost’s handle to carry Roost to preheated oven or
hot grill.
- Cook
covered at 350° for 2 hours,
or until chicken is thoroughly cooked.
- Use
a meat thermometer with poultry setting. Test temperature in the
breast and thigh - should be 175 - 180 degrees.
DO NOT UNDERCOOK!
- When
removing Roost from grill, use a good potholder or gloves when
grasping Roost handle because IT WILL DEFINITELY
BE HOT!
- Carve
and serve directly from Roost.
- Remember...any
remaining liquid in can will also BE HOT!
- DO
NOT USE ROOST IN MICROWAVE!
- Let
cooked chicken stand for 15-20 minutes to enhance flavor.
- When
cooking in a conventional oven, use a drip pan underneath to
prevent splattering. Add 1/2 inch of water to the pan.
- Not
recommended for uncovered grills.
CLEANING
THE ROOST - How to do it
When
you've finished cooking and eating that delicious Drunk Chicken, and
you want to get your Roost ready for the next time, please don't rub,
don't scrape, don't scrub. Don't spend any more time than it takes to
place your Roost in a bath of hot water and dish soap in the sink for
about an hour, letting it soak to loosen up stuff. Then rinse and wipe
dry.
Or, let the dishwasher do it all! Your Roost is dishwasher safe!
